Their loss... Not everyone can appreciate quality music :)
Fine if people don't like them, shame some people need to be douchebags about it though. The First Note is Silent is hardly representative of UW's sound, not to mention it's a High Contrast track for the most part anyway.

Wow, there is some heavy-duty vitriol in that thread. I bet most of them haven't listened to anything newer than NUXX either.

Those haters probably never listened to the brilliant "I'm a Big Sister" or OWB or Ansum...like TheBang said, most of them probably know very little of their music from their releases in between NUXX and The First Note Is Silent.

Perhaps I'm looking at it from a different angle since I wasn't around for it, but I never really understood why people saw A Hundred Days Off as a disappointment. On the contrary, I think it's evidence of just how well they fared without Emerson and were able to overcome their association with a quickly-fading "electronica" boom. Stunned that the people in that thread seem to universally consider it a bomb.
Also, I loved this little tidbit:

I never really looked at their pics before. They look like a couple of real pricks

well yeah, definitely not, but you can't really be too shocked at this directed towards a band that's pretty much always kept a lot of their best stuff off the actual albums

Id call the two most recent High Contrast tracks poppy and I don't like either one of them. However their back catalog is obv. amazing otherwise none of us would be here :)

The longer it moves on, the less interested people will be with the older stuff.

those fools are just a bunch of tarts. and they obviously haven't listened to OWB... and as for AHDO - i for one was hugely impressed with that release for the fact that Emerson had departed. there are some amazing tracks on that album.

but what do i know? i'm just an uw fan! :D

that thread is not worth even commenting on

...even though i just have

people need to wait til the Olympics opening ceremony - its certainly not gonna be a pop-fest trance-a-thon that Tiesto served up

its gonna be a Chas'nDavekneesupmuvvabrownforeverblowinbubbles east end jamboree (i hope)

How is it that there's no mention of Barking on that thread? If there's anything to polarize fans/former fans with that "THEY'VE CHANGED SO MUCH" shit its Barking. Whatever.

Heck, so some people don't like a band that matures as their listeners mature.

I was kind of disappointed with AHDO at first; gave it many listens, but then a few years later I listened to it some more and was hit with a new found appreciation for it after a couple of listens. It is underrated. The days that they were a trio were amazing, but when it has mostly been about Rick and Karl has also been amazing, too. There is some amazing music that probably wouldn't be there if Emerson stayed. The fourth UW album would have probably been more heavy dance music, which is cool, but we might not have gotten tracks/music like Sola Sistim, Ballet Lane, Food A Ready, Ansum, Back in the Fears, I'm a Big Sister, Best Mamgu Ever, Good Morning Cockerel, Simple Peal, and much more. And to me, those tracks and I'm a Big Sister is right up there with the great stuff from Emerson-era UW.

I don't see the criticism that dramatically. Compared to musique concrete or virtually unknown Death Metal Folk Fusion bands, Underworld are 'pop music'. The 'shite' part is simply an opinion - and everybody's entitled to one of those, even if it's wrong. ;)

its gonna be (http://apb-reloaded.browsergamez.com/) a Chas'nDavekneesupmuvvabrownforeverblowinbubbles east end (http://battlefield-heroes.browsergamez.com/) jamboree (i hope)

Nicely put.

Of course everyone is enclined to their own opinion, but that mentioned thread is just not necessary. Really.

There was the same sort of nonsense spouted on the Guardian thread announcing UW as the musical directors for the Olympics.

Some eejit banging on about them never having progressed beyond 90s "four on the floor".

They hear two UW all their lives and think they know it all. Sheesh.
