Anyone have an idea of what came first? Given that Underworld can totally alter a track, I'm unsure about which originated first. I assume it would be PD due to it being more ambient and giving more to build on.
Still don't understand why both versions came on the BF and wasn't a b-side like Cherry Pie was for Rowla.

I feel like they wanted a downtempo track to wind down the album (before the blast of Moaner).
I believe they really wanted to have Please Help Me on the album, it just never fit the style of the album.
To me it is an awesome poetic/mirroring/rhyme , and makes total sense... as if it is a memory of the audio journey (to show how far your ears traveled)...
This was Underworld's last album that I went complete nuts over...

not really fond of "Push Downstairs" at all - definitely the low point of BF. interesting question though.

Her full name is Tina Schrödinger and right now she is most probably on the landing halfway between ground and main floor, somewhere in Berlin.

Only guessing here, but since "push upstairs" is a term for promoting something, forcing the issue, pushing towards a conclusion, i think it must have come first.
Never had a problem with Push Downstairs. In fact, it strengthens the themes of the album, provides some chilled moments before further dancefloor madness, and in and of itself, is a quality track.

Also, it is, of course, far superior to Jumbo, the only Underworld track I regularly skip... *takes cover*
