Great! Who else?

Themes? I have a couple of suggestions, keeping with the UW lyrical inspiration:

"I'm Invisible"

"Warm Machine"

"Glass Eye On You, Electric Eye On You"

"Does Not Wait To Catch Its Reflection"

etc, etc.... suggestions and contributors?!

I like "Glass Eye On You, Electric Eye On You", but the title is long, maybe?

Bumparoo...

5 or 6 contributors...we need more! The deadlines usually move and the participants drop out and in, but let's try to formalize it soon...

Dirty Producers, please lend your talents!

These have always been a lot of fun to contribute to and hear the eclectic finished products.

Would a theme or title help entice or inspire people?

Buji

Im back in again if that's cool?

I also agree that "Glass Eye On You, Electric Eye On You" is a good title for this.

If it's too long, then maybe just "Electric Eye on You"?

I suppose I could use this as motivation to put the finishing touch on a track. I'm in.

I like the title, though I agree that it is a tad too long. TheBang makes a good suggestion I think.

I can contribute one or two or three tracks. Whatever floats your boat. :D

Ok, let's do this!

Hoping there's some energy behind this years' comp. We have fewer dedicated collaborators so far, but these things always ebb and flow. If you want to submit two tracks, that'd be fine. Or, still time to jump in. No limits to time/tracks in this digital age.

How about November 18th (that's a Friday) as the first deadline.

Lacking other suggestions, this year we'll call the compilation "Electric Eye On You".
Maybe that will inspire?

Send me a PM when your track is done, and we'll arrange links/downloads, etc.

Happy producing! Anyone else that wants in, you're very welcome.

Halfway to the deadline.

How's it going, dirty producers?

Anyone else interested in joining in?

We are working hard to get the tracks ready in decent quality...
Going further in the music production and going back, trying to catch inspiration. Working on the sounds, what will be in these tracks... Listening to it... Hearing advice how to go further... Discussing... When you are in group you must always have compromise... A lot more discussing... Improving... Mixing... We are still in the process... :)

I'll try for the November 18 deadline, but can't make any promises. With a pregnant wife, working on the house to prepare for the new little guy's arrival, heavy work and whatever semblence of a social life I can still maintain, there's not a lot of time left for music. I'll see what I can do though.

Camiel and other producers,

Please send me a PM when you have finished your track(s), with links to where it can be downloaded (or a download site), and any brief bio you want to share. i will compile the tracks and work on the artwork.

As for hosting the finished product, can we get it on dirtyradio again this year? Or anyone else want to make a page? The alternative is that i post this year's compilation to my netlabel's Archive.org page, which will allow free downloads, but somewhat reduces audio quality (hey, you get what you pay for!).

Hope folks are busy in the creative process! I have a track ready, Camiel has two...and you?

thx,
Holden

For hosting full quality downloads, we can do that here on borndirty.org. Also, I'm sure Mike will be happy to put it in the dirtyradio rotation.

Hye, guess what? The "deadline" is upon us. I have received several, but by no means enough tracks for a full fledged compilation. Hopefully, life is just getting in the way, as it does. But if you are on the fence about submitting or are wrapping up your production(s), please do so as soon as possible, so we can move on with this project.
Or maybe this is the end of the line of dirty discs?

As I mentioned earlier, I can get something done for it, just not by a November 18 deadline (obviously as it's the 21st and I haven't submitted a track yet).

For me, these comps are always just about doing something fun - having a no-stress creative outlet. I'd hate to see the comp tradition die just because of strict deadlines. That isn't fun or stress-free at all. ;)

No worries about the passing of deadlines. We always disregard the first!
Just would like to have this one out before the end of the year, to keep the streak alive, and we still have over a month of 2011.

Could be way off here, but at least from my point of view, there hasn't been the same enthusiasm as past years. Typically, we have a lot of folks who say "yes, i'm in." Some drop out, no problem. A few late additions help fill the gaps. But as of now, i have contributions from 3 artists, including myself.
Fine tracks, sure, but not necessarily a representation of the many talented producers that lurk around born dirty if we have a compilation with 2 or 3 tracks from 3 or 4 artists.

I'm not looking just for quantity...quality is still key, and it's here. But we also could use some more variety or eclecticism.

Hopefully we can get a few more people to finish up in early to mid December?

Buji

Ok, just a progress check... right now, I've got the following tracks slotted in the compilation:

Liquid Green: "Lausanne"
Liquid Green: "Islandica"
TFHats: "I Am the Gentle Autumn Rain"
TFHats: "Phosphorstadt"
Mental Health Consumer: "You're Not Going Anywhere"
Mental Health Consumer: "Late Afternoon, Latest November"

As you can see, we can use some additional artists and tracks. I realize with the holidays, time's not getting any less busy, but we would still like to have this out before the end of the year, so if you have any track(s) in the works, please send me a PM.

Many thanks!

Ok, another week without any contact.

Folks, please let me know if you're at all interested in contributing to a compilation. It need not be released this year (in fact, that seems very unlikely given the low level of interest and submissions), but if you're sitting on some almost-complete tracks, please let us know if you'd like to contribute.

Looking through the archives, since 2002, there have been dirty compilations/remixes every year. During and before that, there was a string of UW remixes/mash-ups on this site. I'd like to keep the string alive. But as said, we're just not getting the feedback this year. Should we scratch the tracks? Several producers have been very generous and have spent a lot of time working on tracks and artwork to contribute. We could release what we have, but i know there are many more producers amongst the ranks...

I have a stack of university deadlines approaching, and can't devote much time to music-making right now... in early January I'll have lots of time to polish off things though.

Camiel
12-19-2011, 05:42 AM
Holden,

Can't we just release it in January? I mean, the productions are all from 2011, so I don't see any harm in that.

Maybe this will trigger some of you: if you deliver some techno / electro tunes I will send them to Dave Clarke. How is that for exposure? We only need to make a soundcloud account where we can upload the 'album' or I can use my own.

reactorstudios
12-19-2011, 08:35 AM
I am using a week's worth of vacation days to sit in my studio from January 2-6 and crank out some tunes for just this purpose. I need to get reacquainted with my studio. It's been a busy, non-musical, year.

I'll have time to get something wrapped up and submitted early in the new year, but until then, I'm just way too slammed with other stuff I need to do. I'm also waiting to get vocals back on the specific track I'd like to submit from my friend Julie. Once I have them, I can forge ahead pretty quickly as I know exactly what I want to do with the track to finish it up.

Anything? This is making me very depressed.

Mike
01-16-2012, 10:36 PM
Don't let it make you depressed. You put in a lot of work for this each year, but despite your best efforts to pull this together, it looks like there are too many contributors who are just not able to commit due to other stuff.

It is an excellent project, but perhaps just accept that the 2011 compilation is over... you could do a mini EP with the tracks already submitted, consider it the 2012 EP. And then look forward to the next one, which could start momentum in July / August and it could be finished in time for the start of 2013.

Mike's idea makes sense.
EP would be great, because I dont want to put others outside of the train. So we can manage compromise between those who submitted tracks/listeners who look forward to it and with those who dont have the stuff ready yet, but will have it the future....

To my knowledge there are possible 6 tracks to release now.
So that could be EP1, then in the year 2012 then there could be EP2... etc, possible 3 EPs...

Then they can be released at the end of the year...in their new remix versions to make it more interesting...

This history of compilations are here too many years, it will be sad to break the tradition now... So I think this little change can make this compilation project go further on its course. Its not like last years, but its like compromise of the tradition with modernity...
We all can make ideas but Brian will choose what do do...

I appreciate your efforts at organizing the project this year, holden. I think just fewer people are visiting the site these days with the decline of UW's popularity, coupled with the fanbase growing up and life and responsibilities getting in the way of extracurricular activities. It's probably not a bad idea to catch as catch-can for this project

Appreciate the comments, folks. I understand how life gets in the way. I compose music as a hobby, but its something i spend a fair amount of time on, perhaps more than i should or others can. i figured that, even if some regulars dropped out, we'd have new people to contribute. Maybe, but not right now!

I like the idea of a series of EPs, to maybe generate some interest for later in the year and to show appreciation for the other guys who contributed their tracks. More soon. Thanks for the encouragement...

Here's what i have for the first EP. "Electric Eye on You":

Liquid Green: "Islandica"
Liquid Green: "Lausanne"
Mental Health Consumer: "You're Not Going Anywhere"
Mental Health Consumer: "Late Afternoon, Latest November"
TF Hats: "*I Am The Gentle Autumn Rain"
TF Hats: "Phosphorstadt"

Everyone happy?!

I have a few Liquid Green/Mental Health Consumer remixes that might be for another day, but mostly i think this is ready to go. Hopefully, this will inspire remixes and/or original productions for the next iteration.

Coming very soon. I'll post it to my netlabel. If it can go onto dirtyradio, too, that'd be great!
