Hmmm, another album to drop out of nowhere. I've paid for the newspaper album thing whatever it is, works out roughly the same for the special edition of Barking, so for artwork, a CD and two 10" I think its a fair deal. Wish I knew a tracklisting though.

that shibuya thing is quite... odd. and cryptic.
also bought the newspaper edition with the mp3s.

I tried to order the deluxe version w/ the wav downloads, gave all my info and whatnot...
then after I clicked "purchase" - the page sort of 'flashed" (like reloading)
and I never got a confirmation email... so I'm not sure if my order went through or not...
I checked "order status" and I got the message
You do not have any valid orders.
Click here to return to the store.
did this happen to anyone else? I just don't want to be charged twice... (if I try to do it again)

it irritates me that they're doing this crap about two 10" lps again. they need to just do one LP like in rainbows. it's only nine tracks and it's a pain in the ass to have an LP that short split like that.

and the first single is lotus flower - good thing to wake up early to. liked the bassy vibe.
hated the dancing, why thom is getting all exposed? he used to be shy, 'don't want cameras around me'

It's not bad. Better first impression than their last record. Definitely not a band record though. Whereas the last one was. It sounds mostly like Thom sitting in front of a drum machine and synthesizer, much like his solo album "The Eraser." Hmm. Some interesting cuts on here tho. A good effort. Not a strong one. But I'm sure it'll grow on me. Separator and Lotus Flower are good recordings. Give Up The Ghost is decent but could have been a little better, in my opinion. Not sure why they decided to do a fast version of Morning Mr. Magpie with drum machines - their old version was much slower and featured an acoustic guitar, and I preferred that version. Still waiting for them to record Follow Me Around :)

Are you gonna play it on vinyl that much?

After 2nd listen, I'm starting to appreciate this version of Mr. Magpie.
And Codex stands out as another solid track. Kind of reminds me of Exit Music, a little.
Slight of hand
Jump off the end
Into a clear lake
No one around
Just dragonflies
Flying to the side
No one gets hurt
You’ve done nothing wrong
Slide your hand
Jump off the end
The water’s clear
And innocent
The water’s clear
And innocent
Since the record is so short and there's a lot of new Radiohead songs that didn't make this release, there's been some rumors about a possible second record coming within a year's time - like they did with Kid A/Amnesiac. But I dunno. Just speculation right now. Usually the band tries not to repeat themselves. But still would be great though. Maybe even a good idea

in reality, i'll probably play it more than the CD. in the car i use an mp3 player, in the house i use vinyl. CDs are pretty much pointless unless you have a CD changer in the car.

okay, i just heard lotus flower. it's alright, i guess, but i was kind of expecting something different. it sounds just like in rainbows or the eraser.

Liking it a lot, though there are a lot of tracks missing that they have done live.

i did like it, it sounds quite stark and tiny, which is not a bad thing. it's like the band has decided to turn themselves into a music-box of sorts. also, i wish they get rid of that drum machine (used in little by little). it's annoying :P.
fav songs so far? from lotus flower to separator. those are more radiohead-ish and catchier after repeated listenings.

I really dug "Seperator" but I'm kind of divided on the rest. I do miss the more rock n' roll Radiohead; this album is fine but it doesn't have any energy, it's just kind of dreary and whiny. Drums sound an awful lot like Four Tet on basically every track. But it still seems solid in the end. They definitely know what they're doing. I actually like this as a short album - I mean the 50-55 minute Radiohead albums are great, but there isn't really that much substance here so the shorter length fits it. Right now RYM is trending it as the worst besides Pablo Honey, which sounds about right. Not bad, but where's the music??

I did not plan to purchase this album. My premise for this was that I was simply unimpressed with Radiohead's catalog.
I finally got into Radiohead with the release of In Rainbows. About half the album I really enjoyed, and the other half I cared less about. I delved into their back catalog, studying The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail To The Thief, their b-sides and rarity's, etc. I gave Pablo Honey a spin but it was almost a joke and quickly marked it as such. Why take a chance and buy their new record? I've been hard pressed for cash for a year now and didn't need to blow money on something that was going to waste my time.
I humored myself and went to Pitchfork's website to find a review, without one posted but a link to a website streaming the album for free, I pursued.
I streamed the album through my monitors I use for making music. Starting the first song I was taken aback by the production used. Very different from any other album, an unfamiliar Radiohead sound for sure. It quickly caught my attention the soul of dance in the first song. Followed by the catchiest Bass Lines I've ever heard Colin play. I quickly began the second, third, fourth, all the songs until the album completed, cleaning my room in the process, often pausing to listen to parts of the songs that caught me in a way I could only describe as brilliant.
After streaming the album twice in it's entirety, I went to The King of Limbs website to purchase the Newspaper Edition, burned the download of the album, and have listened to it 9 times in a day and a half.
I absolutely cannot get over the warmth of this album. It has hit the spot I've needed for such a long time. I have not heard a new album this good since Third by Portishead, sorry Underworld. However, there are songs on the album that make me think if New Order and Underworld had a child, it would be this; the track "Little By Little" being a huge indicator. I remember reading interviews with Thom describing his affection for dance music, and the desire he's had for Radiohead to make such music. I think he finally got his way, and the band has never sounded better to me.
This album has the best bass lines I've ever heard Colin do. The cleverest drum programming Phil has accomplished. Thom actually doesn't sound obnoxious when he sings, it fits so well! Ed and Jonny's guitar work on this album is so subtly beautiful. And for once, I've never heard song structure like this in music. I believe that's why I haven't gotten tired of it yet, because it keeps me interested the entire damn time. When I finish "Separator," "Bloom" sounds as fresh and good as it did when I first listened to it, and the whole trip happens again. On a whole, the album plays kind of like a dub step album, but hey, what do I know about dub step.
My old favorite Radiohead album was Hail To The Thief, now it's The King Of Limbs. Hope you all are enjoying it as much as I am!

I hate to do this, but...
Have you guys paid close attention to the hand claps on "Lotus Flower?" They're so random and out of time with the rhythm of the song that I think it has totally spoiled that track for me.
The hand claps begin right away in the right speaker as the music starts. It seems like they're almost in-time at first. Next the claps quickly shift to the left speaker before the actual song begins and the claps drift out-of-time just before they're dropped out before the first verse. But then.. Nigel has the claps coming in and out of the mix at random times during the rest of the song and they just sound so out-of-time and God awful.. and dare I even say embarrassing?
Totally ruined the song for me now. :(

Wow. The claps are what make the track for me.
They are rhythmically "fighting" with the main pattern in the track, but they are not out of time. Syncopation.

this,
also, handclaps were used for the same effect in 15 step.

Nah it really works i think..
I suprised how few people have referenced the impact that Flying Lotus' music has had on this album, especially the early tracks. Yorke featured on his latest album so there is a clear link there.. but when i hear this album i hear a huge flavour of Flying Lotus.. especially in those hand claps.
And if you want to talk about out of sync rhythms wrecking otherwise amazing tracks, look no further than Little Speaker on AHDO... every time i hear that i pray that this time it wont have that stupid out of sync drum loop in the background.

It's funny that you mention that because I was the first person who brought up that out-of-time drum loop on the Dirty forums. I remember a lot of people saying almost the exact same thing then as you guys are saying now.. that it was "purposely out-of-time." But I never bought into it. It was just sloppy programming, to me - and still is.

I don't mind the handclaps on the Radiohead song... It kinda feels "right" to me, especially with the video
but as far as "Little Speaker" -> yeah - that totally (still) sounds like a mistake to me

NOW MY SECOND COPY HAS GOTTEN LOST IN THE MAIL...
HOW IS THE UK MAIL THAT BAD?!?!??!?!?
I just got an email from the "King of Limbs" webstore saying that I should have received it already this week... and if I didn't, I should give an alternate address
which is now going to have to be my girlfriend's parents house in the States (as I'm going to be there for a couple of weeks)... I just hope it gets there before I have to fly back to Glasgow
