Mixed bag of remixes here covering a lot of styles:

Album Version (6:58)
Clouds Remix (4:38)
Clouds Dub (4:38)
Lone Remix (5:21)
Lone Dub (5:21)
Mark Broom Vocal Mix (8:04)
Mark Broom Dub 3 (6:35)
SUBTRKT Remix (5:21)
Tong & Rogers 'Praia Do Rosa' Mix (8:16)

Can't believe what Tong & Rogers have done. Do they not have an original idea between them?

My favourites are the Mark Broom mixes on first listen. I'll see if it stays that way. :)

So Bird 1 is the next official single? Is it confirmed?

TheBang

Yes, confirmed:

With Barking, their sixth studio album out now to widespread critical acclaim, Underworld have once again performed a feat of creative regeneration; the duo have announced their next single "Bird 1" will be released digitally on November 22nd. The shuddering machine pulses of "Bird 1" - the album's opener - has been reworked by several DJs and producers:

1. Bird 1 (album version)
2. Bird 1 (Mark Broom remix)
3. Bird 1 (Lone remix)
4. Bird 1 (Pete Tong remix)
5. Bird 1 (Clouds remix)
6. Bird 1 (sbtrkt remix)
7. Bird 1 (radio edit)

No matter how many times they do this, I still get the annoying feeling that "send the stems to some people and stick the results online" has to be the laziest way to release anything.

 digitally.........

And I'll bet that there will be a promo CD with full artwork, like there has been for Crocodile, Ring Road, Beautiful Burnout, ALAF and Scribble... I can't understand why they do this.

But I'm looking forward to this anyway. Especially the Lone remix (if it is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQrpR7Y1ez0) guy).

I'm sure previews will start appearing on YouTube and on various shop's websites shortly and when they do I'll add them to the original post. Unfortunately I can't find any right now. With the digital promos out I'm sure a few blogs will also post one or two of the mixes too.

Furtunately I have the BB promo, but ALAF and Sribble no. :(
Some days ago I got a Ring Road promo, but it's just a CDr acetate prmo, but I thought it will be the full artworked promo. :(

i'm gonna say before i listen to the previews that the sbtrkt remix will be the best one....

edit: they're all bad.

After listening to all prewievs, I can say finally we will get very good remixes! Sbtrkt and Lone are the best, but Tong is very moody and Broom is also nice. Just the lack of the physical single.....

God, that was painful. Who actually wants to listen to this stuff? Cheesy uninspired & underproduced techno, with underworld vocals over the top. You'd think they would bother trying to at least make the cheese use keys that don't clash with the vocal, but no, that would actually require some effort.

I still can believe that Tong & Rogers just ripped off the synth from Aeroplane's version Paris by Friendly Fires. So, so lazy.

If you don't know the track I mean, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYNTkAjybQg

Even funnier, Aeroplane reused the synth themselves not so long ago to create this bootleg / remix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blV5LruigqE

After listening to all prewievs, I can say finally we will get very good remixes! Are you deaf? This is the worst remix package of any Underworld single. I'm betting that the stems that were released will create some amazing remixes far better than these. On the plus side, the remix package is very cheap at only $2.49 for over 56mins of music. So take a shot and they might grow on you. Thats about the best I can say.

I've heard the Joe Bellingham dub and its better than this lot. And our very own Marshall Watson has created an amazing remix which you may (or may not) hear in the future. Here's the Bellingham mix for reference: http://soundcloud.com/joebellingham/underworld-bird-1-joe-bellingham-dub

Maybe you're just confused about which thread you posted it in, since you've done it twice now. It was just as funny as the first time.

it's kind of hard to hear something out of 30sec samples. also, nobody should make any kind of comment out of 30sec samples, so stop the drama already.

seriously? is there censorship now on this forum?turd polish would indicate that these mixes are somehow polished, and that Bird 1 is a turd. My opinion is the reverse. Bird 1 is a great tune. The remixes are not. So rather than polishing a turd, its more taking a dump on something all shiny and new. I do appreciate the humour though :) and no it wasnt me who "censored" your picture...

TheBang
10-17-2010, 01:54 PM
I looked in the Moderator Log, and no one "censored" anything. I think he just really didn't realize that he posted it in the Bird 1 Remix Contest thread, and thought it was this one.

i'm liking the 'lone remix' from the sample, the others seem more typical. it seems narcassistic of the DJs to include a version of each mix without the lyrics.

At least Tongy and Rogersy have actually produced a new track rather than bolting the vox on top of a mediocre existing track, which seems to be the case with many of the other mixes (and previous uw 'remixes') . Their track is actually in the same key as the vocal, and the bassline follows it, which should be a pre-requisite for music ;)

i think this'll be a pretty good mix... I'll buy it. Not too interested in the others though...

Dirty Vegas sounds like a limping gambling machine
the Clouds and SBTRKT mixes are kinda cheeky
but I still wonder in what way is Lone Dub a remix of Bird1?

However "a Mark Broom sweeps clean" on this scene.

I wonder why called on the promo cd the album version is Club EQ. It's exactly the same as the album version.

10 mixes

bloody hell...

then a million fan mixes too....

overkill...

i love interpretations..... but offering 10 mixes officially then getting them remixed too... whats that all about...???

i feel the fan mixes however good will not get the recoginition they deserve because of the official remix package

big up the marshall watson mix !!!

i don't mind all the mixes.. the more the merrier,
and you can pick and choose the ones you like..

i remember when new order did this for 'crystal',
and other groups have done this also..

it's a good move to recognize the fanbase that likes
this kind of stuff..

a long time ago, there was NEVER any access to underworld
mateiral... and once the itunes app came out, i was hoping there
would be more done with it.... but not so much..

now there's a lot more access, and more material..

better for everyone all around i think..

Kind of disappointed by SBTRKT's remix - he has done WAY better! :O

AND FUCK YEAH, LONE + UNDERWORLD. I've listened to Lone's stuff before, so this remix definitely did not disappoint me.

Not motivated enough to listen to the other remixes - do not care, tbh.

i wasn't really complaining - just surprised that so many mixes of this are officially released - and it is ALSO being remixed by everyone else as well...

once the beatport competition is over there will be hundreds of versions of this...

i know there are loads of DM mixes out there and its not a major problem, but looking back in the future it'll be hard to determine whats official and whats not...

suppose thats the idea....

dub's are EXCELLENT sources for using when making
your own mixes, or doing mash-ups etc..

i'm extremely glad to have dub versions any time remixes
are done... some are actually quite good..

and what do you think underworld did when they used to
remix a lot of other peoples works? they REMOVED almost
all the vocals, and made the songs totally unrecognizable
a lot of the times.. (although some of the originals weren't
that great to begin with).. so what does that make them?

finally listened to all the official mixes..

i'm digging the lone remix, and the mark broom ones..
also the tong and rogers remix isn't half bad either..

i wonder if underworld will do any remixes on their own
at a later point in time? (or promo ones?)... like they
did for 'king of snake'...

is this the end of the singles for the album?

seems like they released them all pretty quickly... usually
they're spaced out a little more in timing to keep interest in
the album going...

but i think the album stands on its own pretty well..

i still haven't listened it to more than a handful of times though..
i'll get around to it... just haven't been listening to much music
in general lately... just the occasional remix.. or remaster..

The Lone one is bugging me, as it's the first remix since Jumbo I've actually enjoyed, but then it gets ruined by the excessive use of compression which seems so popular these days. I don't get it at all. The first half is really great, but then it gets all compressed and just really ugly. Hmm. Ah well.
