Underworld are offering you the chance to remix “Bird 1,” co-produced by Dubfire, from their new album, Barking. Yaaaay! Work on my track for the compilation mat have to go on hold while I get my teeth into Bird 1...

Initial impression is that these are full stems, not the tiny 2 second chunks that made the Depeche Mode one so annoying, and everything is nicely soloed except the percussion.

I think testudo meant the 'beautiful burnout original (unfaded)'... I have it on a promo CD, it's not showing up on iTunes for me... google has results for it though.

Hm, hard to keep track of the off-topic conversations.

The "Beautiful Burnout" single is unavailable on iTunes UK and iTunes US (never available on US, actually), but it's still on some other places, like iTunes Germany and iTunes Netherlands. The Unfaded Mix is Track 1. As Lx_Nen mentioned, it's also on some promo CD's.

hmmm. sounds like the story of my life. i have ableton and i think i've only tried it out once. i only seem to be good at collecting. not so much at execution - my bucket list is going to be huge!

btw - are these stems good enough to mix a full track or are they partial in which other sounds should be added? i'm still deciding on whether or not I should have a go at this or just be the listener to the fans. :confused:

What's the BPM you folks are finding to work on it? I think I landed at something like 101.4 before I had to head out the door for work this morning, but I'm not sure that it was exactly right...

Nice one. I like the atmosphere and slow build-up. Better than any of the official remixes, IMO.

Well yours certainly raises the bar higher then the official mixes!

Having checked the tempo thoroughly, it's 135 bpm, rock solid - I was fooled by the stems not starting exactly on the beat. Logic users should slice .84 of a beat off the front of everything to fix this. If you rely on looking at waveforms as much as I do, you might want to boost all the stems by 11db, they are very quiet on their own and can all take 11db without any clipping (don't forget to turn your outputs down to compensate though!).

So... for this contest, there is voting among the public. Not sure how it's going to go--but anyone who likes the mixes--especially the people in THIS community, should take the time to go to Beatport and Vote on favorite mix.

Also, for the artists, I'm not sure it's wise to post to Soundcloud before submitting tracks... I think beatport want control of the content... I'm not certain on this, but that's a usual stipulation.

Please and thank you.Easily the best mix of the lot. Way better than the official mixes of the other singles released this year, and although Buji and Joe Bellingham's mixes are also good, this one is also better. As for the other mixes on the beatport page, really, SRSLY, do NOT bother. i have wasted time so that you dont have to. Just listen to this one and forget the rest. Listen to this one at work, at home, on other peoples machines, by proxy. Its quality.

I'm but a newbie at production (and this is literally the first thing I've ever finished using Ableton!), but I'm kind of pleased by how it turned out. You deserve my vote for sure, I didn´t heard such a good remix in a long time. Your remix sounds very (I would say) "underworldish": I mean that you capture the essense of great Underworld mood, which we all love. In this remix I feel condensed Underworld vibe throught the song, and its great, its like it was made by Underworld themselves in classic times around STITI. This is top quality!

There's some damn fine stuff coming out of the Dirty camp here. As for mine... ambient mix tried and abandoned, rock/pop mix tried a dozen ways and then abandoned, new ambient mix going well but still needs a lot of tweaking... I'll be late to the party, but I'll hit the deadline somehow!

Firefox with the DownloadHelper add-on has worked fine for me.
So far I have 156 remixes on my HD (1.34 Gb, 17 hours and 41 minutes) and it seems that they keep coming.

I would suggest some sort of mutual effort to collect all these remixes after the competition has ended.
