Wow that's pretty cool for the band. Jimmy Fallon does book a wide variety of music guests for his show. I was hoping the band would get booked for either Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel or Craig Ferguson. I've been to a taping for Craig Ferguson once, and the place only holds 110 people in the audience.

Maybe Underworld will brainstorm a bit with The Roots (Fallon's houseband).

y'all, i'm not sure if you know, but this is really going to be their breakout in the US. beaucoup fish was 12 years ago, and even then i'm not sure if they got to do a US talk show. this might get the album the needed attention it deserves. kudos to their PR guy!

any predictions on song choice?

Diamond Jigsaw?

I would love for them to do Diamond Jigsaw, but since most brit acts are a bit lagging with singles when they play USA... I would imagine ALAF...

I think they usually play a song or two off the air for soundcheck... I'll check with a friend of mine who recently saw a band at fallon

That would be pretty amazing, two of my favourite bands playing/jammin' together!
They do play a lot with artists performing on the show, so it won't be impossible..

is this because of UW's appearance or is there a very popular guest that night?

plus, since his show is after midnight, does this mean the show is going to be on the night of the 25th (making it technically 12:30 AM the 26th) or is it going to be on the night of the 26th (making it 12:30 AM on the 27th, even though it's still pretty much the 26th)?

Unfortunately due to scheduling conflict with my flight to NYC today, I wasn't able to move it up. A friend will be going as she registered at the same time with me last Sunday.

I contacted the NBC ticketing line and hopefully the ticket will be passed along to someone else who can use it. They told me they would attempt to, so we'll see.

It's tonight. It airs on the East Coast about 6 hours from now.

Most late night shows only accommodate 1 song by the musical guest.

Yeah, and it's usually a 3-4 minute slot, so it will most likely be the Radio Edit.

Back in the day I think they used to, but most shows these days give them 1 song, usually 3-4 mins as The Bang mentioned.

I don't really watch TV in it's broadcast form so I'm in the dark as well. It'd be cool to watch this performance on the red eye to NYC tonight, but I'm going to try and sleep.

DAMN IT! my dvr cut off near the end. i'll have to watch the end online when it comes on.

so, to put it shortly, their performance was fantastic. however, they weren't really mentioned until the end of the show when they played, because huey lewis showed up, and all through the show huey lewis was playing with the roots, and they kept emphasizing that huey lewis was there and it was pretty annoying. the people in the seats behind the UW guys looked like they were having a great time grooving. the people in the main audience (you could only see them a little bit) seemed a bit still, but the DVR cut off right before the song ended, so maybe they all loved it.

all i know is that i hope this is just the beginning of US exposure for the guys, and not the end. it was a great deal that they got onto jimmy fallon, and i hope they can keep going with it.

Just saw the promo commercial for Fallon's show...the first few seconds is Jimmy dancing with Karl before they talk about who else is on the show.

Jimmy Fallon has in the passed been a backup singer when Ringo Starr played and when they had something called Yacht Rock with Robbie Dupree singing Steal Away.

Was a great performance. Hopefully the door is blown wide open to a new set of fans. Jimmy Fallon seemed to really enjoy it, and they got a big cheer at the end. Plus the sound and picture were fantastic in HD. Looked like UW is a fan of The Roots.

My review, I was in the first row of the main audience (I did not get the band bench tickets)

Quick review/random notes of the whole show:
-It was cool meeting Malt Refund before the show, but was scared by my photographic memory (which is why I usually lurk at all UW gatherings)
-Roots did not all seem to like Joan Rivers racists jokes.
-Huey Lewis was a bit shocked that Juliette Lewis did not mention him.
-When Juliette Lewis mentioned Google to hear her music, Jimmy quickly said, yeh "Bing it" (Hello MSNBC)
-Contrary to twitter, pr, etc... before UW started at all, my wife and I mouth read comments that Jimmy said to Huey Lewis about Underworld not being a "real band and musicians" like him (Huey) and The Roots. wow, ignorance.

Underworld came out
-They tried to start, they didn't - Karl quickly said through processed vocals to Jimmy: "Don't ever work with children, animals or computers"
-they tried to start again, Karl said "it's that children and animals thing, again"
-they tried a third time, and this time they got it the ALAF up and running.
-the audience seemed to be confused by UW and their multiple starts, I really felt bad. but the audience did groove...
(also note: i was the one who yelled when Jimmy said "they were the best electronic band in the world")

As I was watching the show last night. I wondered if people new to Underworld might think they're a religious band. With "heaven" so heavily used in ALAF. There are a few other songs they sing that could be confused as having a religious meaning.

But I enjoyed it. I noticed at the end when the Roots started playing, Rick reached for the controls. I was wondering if they were going to jam, but I'm sure testudo would have said something in his review.

I was too tired to stay up to watch this. Plus I don't really know Jimmy Fallon, so for a moment I thought they were going on Jimmy Kimmel. Too sleepyyyyyy.

But watched it just now - I had to skip through the full episode since it wasn't a highlight on the site. And it was awesome~ at the end too, Jimmy was dancing with Karl.

It's uploading now in HD to the Born Dirty Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/borndirty) page, but there was an audio sync problem the first time I uploaded it. I'm too tired to stay up now, so it'll finish uploading again in about 30 minutes and either be fine or the audio will be screwed again, and I'll have to try again in the morning.

And it was awesome~ at the end too, Jimmy was dancing with Karl.

it was... but i think it was in jest of Karl. Jimmy had a few off air comments as well, simulating bass sounds from his mouth. making funny of the Band bench people as they went back to their original seats "hey look at this guy", "look at these guys"

I was reminded of a quote Karl used to say around the Beaucoup Fish era about people becoming a caricature of themselves when they become a celebrity/famous... Jimmy has definitely gone there for me. He'll never be the guy break dancing to Billy Joel at Bar 13 (Shout) NYC to 10 people on a Sunday spring night EVER again. (2003-2004ish)

I noticed at the end when the Roots started playing, Rick reached for the controls. I was wondering if they were going to jam, but I'm sure testudo would have said something in his review.

Since they tried to start playing so many times, I think Rick was more than ready and very rehearsed.

My wife and myself discussed for sometime how cool would it be if the roots jammed with UW, but underworld were quickly shoved on and off after they played. I think the NBC staff were not to happy with the UW's technical difficulties since they cause a delay for the extra activities for the audience... Huey Lewis played an extra song for the Jimmy website, and there was an audience laugh track recording for the Women of SNL special next week.

The Look on Huey's face as UW finished up was priceless. Like a deer in the head lights, old man thinking to himself "These kids nowadays and their crazy music, when I was a kid...."
He just seemed shocked I guess.

No doubt. Karl and Huey met for the first time in daycare just after '"The War".
Actually, I bet if you really dug deep into the early 80's, you could probably find some club where Freur played and then Huey & The News played within the same month.

To think ALAF went from this cool song on some of the LiveHereNow CDs (for me, anyway; for the more loyal Dirts amongst you out there I know it started out even more obscure) to them playing it live on Jimmy Fallon. Is this what it felt like to have heard the original version of KoS before it was released?

yeah, interesting development... however, when they play 'king of snake' live
now, they are using some of the original lyrics ('fire in the hands between us, etc')
again .. i wish the video i took of it came out, oh well... anyways, so its not like
they forget what the other versions of the songs are like.. and there's a breakbeat
part in born slippy thats more prominent now.. someone thought it was new, but
in fact, it's ALWAYS been in there, they just never played that part..
