2 stops over, that would be better
don't want to offend you....

2 stops over and he'd have a washed out sky. The exposure's fine and the pic is great.

IMHO, of course.

haha
yeah, timing cam be a problem..
especially since there is a short delay if looking through the LCD screen..
so what i have to do is try to pick the area that they are gonna be in, then watch, and press the button when i think its the right time..
iv taken quite a few pics where i have chopped heads off, or badly miss timed the photo.. it takes quite a bit of practice.

im interested in what sort of cameras people use aswell, so if people post pics, maybe post camera specs..

mine is:
Fuji Finepix S5500
4.21MP, 10x Optical Zoom
.45X Wide-Angle Lens
Shutter Speed: 3secs - 1/1000th.s , Manual: 15secs - 1/2000

Well it's obvious by the exposure and the method that he burned in the snow. Either that or his photoshopping did it. You don't get that sort of
exposure in the mid-tones and darks and not do that to the snow. It's easily remedied.

Dramatic shots man. Nice. Esp. the boat and the sky. Keep it up.

Anyone out here a PRO? Pro meaning that they derive more than 50% of their income from shooting? I am.

and I like the panorama action on your shots, sanblaster

lloyd, those are so crisp they look like cg

renze sed: Teotihuacán looks impressive... Imagine that picture with a big WalMart on the right near the horizon. It looks something like that today.

and on the lomo page, is it possible to make the pictures bigger?

They're real straight out of the camera pics though, only cropped and resized. Risizing them gives them a bit of extra sharpness ofcourse. More DOF is really hard to get, but I'm trying.

My favorite pics that I, or my friends have taken are here (http://www.humanwire.net/favpics/).

some highlights:

bleak winter (http://www.humanwire.net/favpics/100_0045.JPG)(context: college, during a cold chicago winter, during final exam week, after a night of drinking, exhausted, eating dorm cafiteria food)
hard work doing what you love (http://www.humanwire.net/favpics/445am.JPG)(sunrise before sleep, this picture for me symbolizes hard work, it was taken after an all-nighter working to meet a film premiere deadline)
intersection sunset (http://www.humanwire.net/favpics/Cary%20Wallpaper%2001.jpg)(the feeling of home)
I Followed My Own Path, But It Only Led To You (http://www.humanwire.net/favpics/I%20Followed%20My%20Own%20Path,%20But%20It%20Only% 20Led%20To%20You.JPG)(so many meanings)

Photoshop. I like a lot the imperfection of it, yet it more or less creates that panoramic effect. I specially love when somebody appears more than once, like the guy on a red and white shirt on the other pic..

mine, too. they're all shot on a "classic" camera (german: spiegelreflex-kamera), not digital, nor altered at developpement, nor photoshopped in any way.

Film! Film!

How many of you guys shoot on film?

my pictures above are shot on film, with my "minolta dynax 303si" (yes, just laugh you pro's :)).
the reason? when i bought the camera some years back (must have been around '00), _good_ digital cameras were way too expensive for me, so i got the camera above. and abandoning it now for a digital would be just a waste of money :)

a lot didnt turn out so great, but here are some that i liked.

Lights on a Lake (http://ruff.customer.netspace.net.au/shepparton-eildon%20029.jpg)
i havnt really taken many night shots, so i thought id have a go.
since i dont have a tripod yet, i had to rest the camera on a hand rail, and set the timer. i took a few shots, but this was probably the best.

Funny, i've got two digital cameras, one expensive fancy one, and one cheapo 1.2 megapixel. Turns out that some of my more interesting shots lately have been quick snapshots using the cheapo. Go figure... (i should probably get a lomo)

The "hands" image was taken at my office. We're an architecture/landscape arch. firm that occasionally does some random creative exercises just to keep things interesting. This exercise was to take a pile of twigs and in ten minutes make in interesting image out of them. enjoy....

I'm curious, what do you think of this building?Well since then I have taken a couple of pics of it. You can see them both here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/stimpee/166765963/).

At first I hated it but now I think its great. At first I thought "how can they get away with building this in the Museum Quarter in the old city?" (most of the bulidings around it date from 1580-1850). But its not on the Oudegracht (main canal), its behind and its out of the main public eye. Also gaining controversy at the time were the container accomodation for students at the university here -> pix (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=uithof&w=all&s=int)

Thanks for the additional pics. I've always appreciated Netherlands' and Germany's willingness to experiment. The US, particularly Colorado, the state I live in, are relatively conservative. Cities and developers just aren't willing to take chances, so I envy your country for that reason. That said, I believe that contemporary architecture generally falls into 2 categories- architecture that is designed for the user and the public, and architecture that is based mainly on the ego of the architect, more art than architecture. Without having experienced the building first hand it appears to be the latter. The exterior doesn't seem too friendly and based on the window pattern I question what it feels like inside. I can't even tell what it is- residential? office? ? All that aside, it is interesting in a geometric, mathmatic sort of way. But is that justification to make people live or work in it? I much prefer Santiago Calatrava's work in that respect.
The student housing looks pretty interesting, small, but at least there's some good glass.
Thanks again for the photos, interesting...

Photo taken by the seaside in Whitby. The boys were playing football and I'd taken a few shots of them in action. Some were good but just not quite right, so we cheated in this one - the ball isn't actually moving and the lads just pretended to shoot and dive on the count of three....

not bad for me though :)

very nice, polar_action :)

There's a lot of amazing stuff in this thread, making it difficult for me to feel comfortable sharing my own. I don't have a car, so most of these are of everyday life around my apartment complex or college campus.

This (http://photo.dailyfiber.net/view.php?id=8) is part of a recent impulse to use my camera at least once everyday.

thanks :) The colors were enhanced in Photoshop with a few levels adjustments. The technique makes for some unnaturally colorful photos.

A few years ago I was introduced to B&W darkroom stuff in college. I recently got a digital camera, so I've been trying to embrace photoshop -- it really is an amazing tool.

What brand/model camera did you use?

Its a sony DSC-N1. not a SLR or anything professional like that. I'd never had a camera before and wanted something small that i could take with me anywhere. It was top of the range out of the compact 3x digital cameras and unfortunately I am kinda prone to random irrational puchases. But I'm really happy with it.

Some great shots there Dave. You don't need pro material to get good pictures, it is being able to capture what you want in the picture. Good equipment dosn't stand in your way to do so.

Nice creative views San, I really like the concrete tube one (although a little cropping would hurt)

I've shot a few new ones too. 'light paintings' this time at the carnival in my hometown.
