Went to see this for my birthday and it was awesome. Blew away everything that came before and I'm gagging for the second part. Bale IS Batman.

A truly excellent movie - none of the silliness of the previous ones, and with some logical developments: how Batman got his powers, where his equipment comes from, the whole background to his parents' death... as realistic as a movie about a cartoon character can be, I guess.

Bale fits the role perfectly - can't wait until the next one too.

Haven't seen it yet but I've pretty much figured that Bale would easily dethrone the others who have played Batman over the years, especially after his performance in Equilibrium...

Can't wait to see this.

i exited the movie theatre, and my excitement grew for it gradually for days afterward until i HAD to see it again.

i expected nothing, and got a whole lot. loved it.

i loved it too, super cool flick!
The character of Crane was so good as well of seeing Gary Oldman as the good kid. Not to mention how hot is Christhian Bale.

The only thing i really didn't liked was the voice of Bruce Wayne as Batman.. it made me laugh a few times because it was so exagerated.

that thing was odd too, but then considering the story it was more likely Bruce's attempt to sound menacing.

It was stupid but...after a while it hits you he has to fake a voice or people would recognize him in real life. And the voice is not that bad just clearly fake.

I am with you Crane was so good, wathever that guy's name is fits perfectly!

i think Bale gulped down steaming hot coffee or a small piece of lava before delivering any lines as batman... i mean there's angry and gravelly and then there's Bale's performance.

I still like Burton's first movie but i'd put this above the next three. i especially liked the fear-induced imagery... but as always wish they'd pull the damn camera back during the action scenes. I really think some of those shots were just a guy throwing a black blanket against a boot or something then adding sound effects.

good movie though.

A good movie throughout.

I wanted to see some scenes, somehow of Bale speaking in the Patrick Bateman voice.

As someone else had already mentioned, it was good to see Scary Gary play a nice, calm, restrained person, doing good.

The first two Batman films rate a bit higher for me, but this one is right up there. One thing this film was lacking was a strong piece of music. Throughout the film there was really no identifiable piece of music that was comparable to the work of Danny Elfman did on the first two films.

Best. Superhero. Movie. Evar! :)

Seriously, this was a fantastic film. I've seen it twice already, and I want to see it again. Bale is perfect as Batman, Michael Cane as Alfred is pure genius, Dr. Crane was great, Liam Neeson was great, Morgan Freeman was a joy to watch, but Katie Holmes... She seemed rather weak for the role, but she didn't distract too much from the movie, so it's all right. I can't wait for the next one, and I think Jim Carrey would make a wicked Joker (yes, I know he already played the Riddler, but he's better suited for the Joker).

I scoffed at the previews, figuring the Batman franchise was beyond the grave. I was thoroughly impressed with how they reinvented it, sans the nintendo costumes and without Ahnuld belching out "Destroy the heroes!" and other one-liners so bad the writers needed to be taken back to the woodshed.

I think I might go see this one again...top-notch entertainment. I especially enjoyed it since Marvel finally got off their asses and got their comics the royal treatment in the movie studios...comics that are all about super-human powers. Batman, with *just* the tools that an ordinary guy would have (minus the bajillionmillion dollars, of course) proved that it is still possible to make a great movie and not have the mysterious ability to engulf yourself in flames and fly around to do so.

Having said that, I'm looking forward to FF.

And I agree with a previous post which suggested pulling the camera back during those action scenes. I could only say "well I THINK somebody is getting their ass handed to them" but had to wait for the dust to settle, really.

Batman is showing in IMAX in amsterdam in the same building as UW are playing in 2 weeks and it will be on.. i think i might do a double of UW and Batman. Already seen it at the cinema and downloaded bad qualityversions from the net and the OST but IMAX is something else.

I finally got to see this yesterday afternoon. (I know, I am behind on my movie going). I loved it, and thought it was one of the best comic book movies ever.

The only thing, and this isn't even movie related but more myrrh mindnumbing related, was that no one was sitting next to me. Because of this there was a hot girl behind me who kept putting her lovely bare feet over the seat and thus her knee down was about ten inches from my face. She had on some awesome smelling body fragrance that just happened to mingle with the air I was breathing. This distracted me from the movie every now and then, as I had idea's of all the things I could do to her starting with her foot and moving up her leg.

Aside from that, the movie was a blast!

I think that french actor who made the playboy character at Ocean's Twelve (the one doing capoeira to avoid the laser beams) would be an AWESOME joker, if only for the looks....

I loved this film. Me and my friend stopped making fun of the script lines when Batman called the bats and then got in the car leading the chase scene. I think no movie had make that effect on us in like 7 years....

Bale is a great Batman, but there's still something in Michael Keaton that makes him unbeatable. Maybe the fact he'd never look like a super hero (physically speaking)..

By far, the best suggestion I've heard for who should play the Joker is Crispin Glover. It's so perfect that no matter who it is I'll be disappointed if it's not him.

you guys spoiled a spoiler!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::(

Just saw Batmento today......shit film. Better than the Schuelmocker(Sp?) ones, but the first two are classic compared to this canned ham of a movie. Sure the visuals look nice and dark but (like someone said before) ZOOM OUT NOLAN!! Can't see anything....maybe he should stick to drama cause his action scenes are a bit too clusterfucked. Some unforgiveable plot/technical flaws bring it down further, but God forbid I spoil anything....;)

I dug this up because the DVD is out now, in three versions. Fullscreen, widescreen, and deluxe. The deluxe one has a buttload of cool extras, including a small comic book with several of the stories that heavily influenced the movie, including the first Batman comic ever, which is pretty crazy to read after the concept has been spun in so many directions over the years. Batman started out pretty hardcore... he threw a guy into a tank of acid! Not exactly Adam West material.

I really appreciate their releasing the fancy edition concurrently with the cheapo one. It's interesting to note that they also FINALLY released a special edition of the 1989 Tim Burton Batman. That is a good example of how to totally botch a DVD release date. I waited forever for that to come out, but now it's been trumped by a way better Batman movie so I'm not even gonna bother with it. Well, maybe someday. I will admit that standing on its own merits it is a fine film, but as an adaptation of the comics it's pretty far off-base.

yeah i only recently saw this after buying the dvd. haven't looked at the extra dvd yet, but i loved the movie. can't wait for the next one, so will the joker be revisited again? scarecrow was a weenie, this movie was so much better with only the one liners used sparsly.

This was a pre-quel to the 1989 Tim Burton Batman so no, I don't think the next one will have Joker as it took place right before TB version.

so they said its in the same universe as tim burton's batman? i wouldn't really complain if he was the villian for the next movie, what great villians are left?

just finished the bonus dvd and have to say its one of the few extra dvd specials that i actually wanted to watch and enjoyed. don't know if its because i liked the movie or because it was really interesting. first off, so was this a british film because it seems like everyone involved in the process is british and most the filming done there too. second off, the FUCKING TUMBLER IS BADMOTHERFUCKINGASS!!! thought it was cool watching the film but seeing the process that they went through to make the film for the film was impressive. i'd take a tumbler over a ferrari anyday. seeing them test drive it on backroads made me envious.

Okay it's been damn long enough, no excuses,

SPOILERS AHOY!

If Batman had a problem with killing that one dude at the first, why did he not mind KILLING EVERYONE ELSE IN THE ROOM!?!?

The scene with his parents could have been avoided if they went out the main doors and not a freaking alley.

Batman sounded like Donald Trump everytime he put on the suit....really laughable shit.

The "fight" at the shipping yard was a mess and just went nowhere...too zoomed in and dark to make out anything. Sound effects and some dumb acting extras.

It would appear if you light a brick mansion on fire the bricks explode.....!

and once it burns to the ground....the slab it was built on is only a quarter the size of the mansion that was on it...how the fuck is that?

Gotta admit, the trippy shit was cool with the drugs being sprayed (especially when Scarecrow looks at B-man...ha ha) but it didn't work well as the main threat.....OH NO, the whole city could trip out, maaaaan. Heavy.

Booooooo.........give me Burton's junkyard dog Batman anyday over this trying too hard Nolan crap.:(

Glad you guys like it....and it wasn't as bad as most Batmans...but for me it was a huge letdown. I'll try it once more on dvd or hbo, maybe it'll grow on me. Still have hopes for the sequel because they don't need an hour of setup material.

This was a pre-quel to the 1989 Tim Burton Batman so no, I don't think the next one will have Joker as it took place right before TB version. Actually it's not a prequel (it was not intended as such and the continuity does not match up in the least) and they do plan on putting the Joker in the next one.

Here's some quotes from an anonymous "insider" that I stole from a fansite which is a real chore to read:

"All the major characters from the first film aside from the villains are back."

"Two additions to the cast of 'good guys:' Harvey Dent and Sarah Essen."

"[The] Joker will be in this film, although he will be just one of several major villains."

"The Joker. I won't spoil things for you but those expecting an exact translation of [the Character] from the comics, in terms of costume, you will be disappointed. However, let may say that this Joker will be the 'The Joker;' the way character is written is very faithful to [how] he is in the comics and I can see why WB is not interested in actors like Crispin Glover or Johnny Depp."

"I won't reveal all the villains, but I'll leave a few hints that the avid comic fan should be able to decipher. One will be an ambiguous mob boss with ties to the late Dr. Thomas Wayne. Another will be an industrial heir not unlike Bruce Wayne - in fact it could be said that he is a dark mirror of Bruce. Over the course of the story, he will be forced to present a new 'face.' And then we have a small, almost cameo type [appearence by a] villain who is considered a 'classic rouge' as a British arms dealer. It may sound a bit crowded, but it all fits together, makes sense, and works much like a comic story arc."

Sarah Essen - a former GPD cop with "ties" to Gordon - now work for the ATF.

"As for the villains plot, the mob boss and the heir get involved with a major arms deal with the 'British Guy,' while Batman and his allies attempt to foil it. [As a result,] they uncover more of the corruption plauging Gotham. Unfortunatly for both sides, nobody knew there was a Joker in the deck who complicates matters." And here's a good interview with Nolan. (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/features/?id=1921&p=.htm)

my friend (not a comicbook enthusiast) thought the same too after he saw the end of the movie on dvd. he thought this was the prequel to the first Batman movie since the joker was the bad guy in Burton's 89 movie.

AFAIK it IS a prequel.....to Batman (as a character and not as the Burton movie). or like a movie version of the "prequel" stories of the comicbook.

(plus the obvious continuity issue...Joker killed Bruce's parents in the 89 movie)

(plus the obvious continuity issue...Joker killed Bruce's parents in the 89 movie)By the way, this is my least favorite element of that movie. Batman is supposed to be altruistic and heroic, out to protect the people at his own expense, and they reduced his mission to a personal vendetta against one guy. The Joker killed his parents so he killed the Joker. That's the opposite of what Batman is about. Kudos to Batman Begins for getting it right!
