Electronics wrapped effortlessly around songs; streams of consciousness lyrics that form indelible images; a perfectly balanced mix of melody and rhythm. Underworld’s sixth studio album is a thundering return to form, although it’s fair to say that the band responsible have never really been below par. Like the bomb on the Icarus II in Sunshine, this new process of working had the effect of not so much reigniting a creativity within the band as exploding it into myriad new fragments. we have seen details of the Barking CD in full

we have heard about the 2 x CD / DVD / Vinyl and Deluxe Box set - but no details

are these available yet - can someone let us know whats in each package (i.e. tracklisting)

because tomorrow the tickets for the forum go on sale, and i'm not doubting that most fans here will buy the best edition, but there are three options for tix at the forum, and do you spend out on a bundle ticket or just go ahead and buy the big box set... some people might like to know in advance

not sure how reliable it is, not certain that we're gonna get just 9 (original / demo versions of the main album) but maybe we are....

its pretty easy to put version straight after the album track names, and people won't notice... is it remixes original demos or what...

i'd like it to be a mixture of all three...

Well, as it says, Disc 2 is "Alt Versions, Work in Progress & Demos," so it sounds like it's everything except remixes. I'm hoping they put multiple versions of some of the stuff that's changed radically, rather than just one alt version for each track.

The DVD, it looks like it has additional videos and different videos.

ok, let's see if the thing is still in cdjapan when i'm back home. even if the shipping is excesive, EMS happens to be quite fast and the seller provides a tracking number.

the downside is... why i've to purchase in japan? in the uwlive news says that a preorder for both vinyl and sp ed will be avaliable soon. so perhaps i should wait until team u/w posts some info. that boxset seems fantastic and i would kill to hear the outakes cd.

but this whole "mega box set" thing (in the record industry - as a whole) sometimes leaves me with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth - like no way in hell I'm going to pay $70 just to get the instrumental versions of the Dangermouse/Sparklehorse/David Lynch "Dark Night of the Soul" or .... $130.52 for David Bowie's "Station to Station" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Station-5CD-1DVD-3LP/dp/B003UTUQ3O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1279277717&sr=8-1) - where they basically just replicate the ~30 minute album multiple times over a few discs (and include a VERY common bootleg with a few songs that weren't on the original boot)

Yeah, I guess this pretty much confirms that this album is going to be almost entirely stuff we've heard before, but in demo/crap form. I guess this confirms that:

Bird 1 is indeed Strumpet
Louisiana is Jumping The Cran
Grace is Telematic Peel

Only thing missing is "Bamboo", I guess.

I hope the disc 2 version of ALAF is Silver Boots...wasn't that the one played at Lemonworld??

there's no point in releasing a vanilla CD with nothing on it for £7.99 - it makes no money, what does make money is lavishly packaged 'all singing' boxes that fans can keep for ever, in the hope that they will come back for more and perhaps buy some tickets for their tours...

the industry is in a mess due to the internet and the only way to make money is to fleece the people who've been buying shit for years, and i'm not pointing the finger at UW here, more like the bigger stadium rock bands, the stones, the beatles, the bowies, and depeche modes of this world...

i don't think the boxset will sell for less than 40quid/80dollars because that's how much boxsets really cost.

it's just a sum of parts:

7-10 for each record
10 for the DVD
10 for the extras

and how much the artist makes out of each part? less than a dollar?

i've seen some boxsets get cheaper... with time. if they're still around.

I have several copies pre-ordered from several places because there is no commitment to buy until the items ship, this way I can pick and choose as more detail become available and prices change. I always pre-order certain artists as soon as available ensuring I get what I want as I have known some release runs sell out in hours of announcement. No rush I know the release date will not come any sooner and I'm quite happy to wait, it's just a practical method that serves me well.

Prices are subject to change but most pre-orders quote the price as the maximum you are expected to pay and may well be lower by the time of completion of purchase, the price could also rise, so early ordering can protect against that.

Yeh, but HMV and Amazon.co.uk have the UK release and that would mean a PAL DVD which would leave many US dirts having to resort to their computers instead of DVD players to enjoy Barking vids. US release would have NTSC DVD.

The NTSC/PAL issue only depends on the make/model of the DVD player used as many support both formats and for some there are "hacks" to enable this functionality.

BR would be nice particularly with Hi Res audio, yum.
