the people trying to beat the commandos into a pulp with sticks as soon as they boarded didn't look exactly peaceful to me.
Probably not a good idea to try and beat armed-to-the-teeth commandos with sticks in the first place.

i'm thinking this flotilla event was meticulously constructed by propaganda wizards as israel bait, with the hope that Israel does exactly what it did

as ever, it only serves to entrench positions - probably a win for the israeli right and hamas, neither of which seem interested in actually resolving anything. fuck them both.

(the flotilla could have unloaded in egypt, but refused. why?)

Why should it?

These fucks raidied a Red Crescent ship in international waters.

The people on board had every right to use what ever means to defend themselves.

Fuck Israel. A rougue nation. . . born of terrorism, built of terrorism.

erm, because it could have unloaded safely and the aid could have got through - isn't that the point? or was the point just to provoke a reaction? they knew there was a blockade, and they knew israel would enforce it. so in my mind, getting aid through was pretty fucking low on the List Of Things We Hope To Acheive In This.

shit for the inhabitants of gaza, who go on being pawns in this shitty game. as i say - it's a win for hamas and it's a win for the israeli right; both of whom are claiming justification and the high moral ground.

but mr and mrs wanting-aid-in-gaza? fucked over once again. front and back.

and as for the ship being a 'red crescent ship' - you need to run a fact check as they had nothing to do with this: Free Gaza and the IHH were the organisers.

I don't know, I think I'd be pretty pissed if Israel was being this anal about what the Palestinians could have.

It appears to me the flotilla defiantly bypassed the blockade but they were still in international waters when they were boarded. They have the right to defend themselves. I wouldn't have taken arms, myself, but sending a bunch of dudes down a line and onto a ship isn't exactly a peace offering, either. The fault ultimately falls on Israel for sending armed men onto a boat, where a fight broke out, where Israel needed to use live fire to defend themselves. The flotilla crew were defiant but it was Israel that picked the fight.

Obama is kind of stuck here. Side with the Turks, who are the US' plan B when it comes to having a partner in Arab relations? Or side with Israel, again, and basically flush all that Arab goodwill-building down the toilet? Not surprisingly, the US is stuck in the middle for the time being.
