yea - it's kinda lame
...actually - when you think about it, it might be more than just 'lame' ...it's kinda dumb
like - how many of us would buy all of the streaming/ low bitrate files* if they came up again, but in Flac or at least 320kbps mp3
*I mean stuff like the old Lemonworld outtakes "Quick Bit for the Web" and even the 'newer' ones like "Telematic Peal"

I think they should just hold on to those alternate takes and reissue their catalog in 2cd format. Imagine having Blue Mountain as the bonus disc to Beaucoup Fish, all nicely remastered. Either way, i'm most excited about new stuff. The last batch of new tunes have all been excellent and I expect the next single/album to be really good too.

Sadly you have to have a special machine to decode it as UW are shunning MP3, CD, vinyl and going back to a special method where you need five hamsters to run around in a continual circle in order for the vibes to start flowing out of a giant hamster ball.

yeah, kinda feel the same. there has definitely been some cool stuff coming out though, but I wish we had studio versions rather than the live/radio broadcast tracks. "Parc" and "Downpipe" are two of my very favorite UW tunes (the latter might not count, but whatever), but IMO there are 5 other tracks I would be just as excited about - YDS, ALAF, Diamond Jigsaw, Between Stars, Strumpet...for sure I thought OBW would have some of this material on it...sucks if low quality recordings are all we have for this fantastic material :(
kind of strange...UW is seriously one of the most prolific groups I can think of...and yet they seem to release only about half of what they make...but this isn't like the Chems or Fatboy or even the Orb...everything they touch really is gold!!!

I'm praying they release You Do Scribble in some shape or form, whether it be a riverrun or on a new LP. I love all of the new material they've been playing, but YDS is on a whole other level for me.

ALAF seems to have been abandoned for the time being in the flurry of (now somewhat old) newness. Though I'm confident that we'll know its fate (and possibly what's happening with all that new material!) when they go back on tour again. For now, though! The anticipation is just too much!

after seeing karl's pic of cigarrettes butts and the 'mayday' message... rick might be working his studio magic over the tracks.
maybe i'm just associating that remix video (loads of these) with the photo. i'm losing my patience at this point.
and what happened to that other knight/ramirez/underworld track? what was d. ramirez talking about? ARRG too many questions. and my time for tonight is up. g'night.

all i know is the time is NOW for something or someone to let us know anything . . . .
in truth, we all know it's coming and it has been promised to be a waterfall weight of new goodness. nor reason to doubt this at all...
BUT it's the time and the silence that is grinding.
when we hear something we'll all be grab the rapture but for now DAMN. I blame the fact that theres so much crap being sold as something out there. bring the gold to quiet the noise boys. let us have it soon.

i can wait. as long as it's better than OWB (their worst, imo) i can wait for it. the shame is that there were so many good tracks floating around the time of that album that didn't make the cut. i was disappointed, especially with 'best mamgu ever'... what a weak closer.
purlieu
05-09-2010, 01:42 PM
Conversely, I can't wait for it because of how much I like OWB, my favourite Underworld record. Best Mamgu is probably my second favourite UW track.
Annnnnyway, yes, really hoping for some sort of announcement soon.

Unless they do a Radiohead DIY digital release, I don't think you'll see a physical release until Nov/Dec or early 2011. Most promo stuff gets issued months in advance and I ain't come across any.

Wait... do you mean "JAL To Tokyo"? b/c I thought that was "Bang the Poll"
and "Crocodile" was "All These Things"
Dirty Canuck
05-10-2010, 02:09 PM
joethelion would be correct.
holden
05-10-2010, 09:14 PM
thing is, we got the remix of "JAL to Tokyo" attrributed to Mr/ andMrs. Christmas prior to "Lovely Broken Thing" - and while the original is just fine, i dare say the remix (Justin W?) was more exciting.
That was in 2005. Riverruns finished in 2006 and nothing from them, really, turned up on OWB, 2007.
Meanwhile - i'll be surprised/ shocked if any of the tracks listed above get released. yeah, "globe" and "biro the leggy" stuck around awhile before becoming "holding the moth" and "Beautiful Burnout". But YDS? That's been played live since 2005. ALAF, versions even longer - 2002/3?. That and Telematic peel have already been "released" via UWlive.com. "Bamboo" has had several years' run both live and in studio. i think that Rick and Karl are ultra-creative, and more likely to channel what's immediately turning them on than what they've been putzing with for years. Still, these are all wonderful tracks and would be fantastic on a new studio LP. Nonetheless, i'd love to be surprised the next time around.

what i like from the unreleased tracks is that they feel more electric, more synth-heavy. things like between stars and diamond jigsaw are kind of synthpop mixed with the usual u/w stuff, and probably will be the catchier stuff in the new album (if they appear in the new album). YDS, ALAF or strumpet are 'traditional' u/w (they remind me of second toughest in the infants for some reason) and the release of them depends on what k+r want.
and i'm seeing a drum kit and a bass and i actually don't know what karl or rick want.
