View Full Version : What I'd like to see...

Ok so from the various UWlive posts it seems that things are moving on production of material and we may get a release this year. But who knows, it could be another year or so. After all gaps between UW releases aren't stable.

But what I'd like to see is a slight return to tracks that I can only describe as ones that blend together to make one massive song that is fresh and interesting. Prime examples:

Juanita / Kiteless / To Dream Of Love
Banstyle / Sappys Curry
Cups / Pens [The so called upbeat name]

And on the live scene:

Rez / Cowgirl
Rowla / Cherry Pie [Or vice versa]
Born Slippy.Nuxx 96 / 03 / Monkey Wink

I don't know, as of the AHDO off releases there hasn't been any sort of UW song that captures that same sort of ethos. As in a stupidly long song that changes to something new and exciting and makes for epic live performances.

Though I would say that there is a tiny window of chance to work this sort of thinking in to something like:

Lenny Pennny / Small Conker And Twix / You Do Scribble

Only flaw kind of being that Lenny Penny & Small Conker And Twix have been released. However, not on anything that is massively commercial. I'd still be happy if that merge of songs came together.

I still think a new album will be the best of the last two released. Only because UW have stated they are playing with hardware and turning away from the laptop generated sharing method. I think its on UWlive where Rick mentions he has more freedom on hardware to jam with sounds.

Its 2.20am, I'm bleating on.

UW has so so so many good unreleased tracks that it makes me giddy but apprehensive that we are never going to get proper releases of them...

i want an albumn full of tracks like "holding the moth" after the first 2 minutes when things get interesting...

Any new Underworld material will be appreciated.

But yeah, i was listening to STITI in the car today and thought, "Wow, it's a gutsy move to start an album off with 2 tracks running almost 30 minutes", and a song like "Cups" is one of my favorite UW compositions. I listen to "Dark and Long" Ep or "Dirty Epic/Cowgirl" or even "Pearls Girl" and am amazed by the epic quality of these original tracks, not to mention remixes like Orbital: Lush 3.3. Underworld have always been more progresive, conceptual, experimental, "album-oriented", whathaveyou than most of their dance peers. "OWB" was a fine example of making a dance record without compromising more melodic, downtime moments. But i too long for some epic aural journeys on the new record.

i think after 'between stars' i've stopped caring as much about what's ahead for them, musically. i look forward to their art projects and ideas more now.
i think they're moving in places that i dont really care for anymore and i'm waiting for the next album just hoping for the best instead of getting really invested.
of course, now watch them nail 'strumpet' and everything else and make their best album in a decade.

IMO an album with You Do Scribble, Parc, Diamond Jigsaw, Between Stars, ALAF/Silver Boots, Strumpet, and Bamboo WOULD be their best since dubnobass, and probably their best ever...seriously those tunes are all great
