ok,
aliens (well the military) meets titantic (in a tree) meets 'dances with wolves', etc..

saw the 2d version.... not too bad..
but so many of themes had been done before..

and yes, seeing sigourney weaver AGAIN, it felt like
old times..

i'm sure the 3D version is groundbreaking... but the
story seems like a big mishmash as i started with..

good start, but i don't think this deserved the hype
it got.. i avoided all of it, and went it with an open mind..

but again, not as impressive as i might have expected..

yeah i'm looking forward to seeing it in IMAX in 3d. That really seems to be the only way to properly enjoy this movie since everything else about it seems totally generic.

saw it yesterday, and it was better than I expected. I did see the IMAX 3d version and as I said I think this is probably the best way to experience this film. It really does a good job pulling you into the world even though the plot and story don't break any new ground. The sheer scale of everything is just very impressive, from the alien jungle world and it's creatures to the military hardware and battle scenes, you know Cameron knows his way around this kind of stuff.

3-d version - shit story, worse script, amazing job though - disbelief totally suspended - loved it!

I agree. The script/plot was terrible. I'm so fucking sick of Iraq war metaphors I could scream. The soundtrack was awful. The earth mother / love the planet preaching was sickening too and i'm a damn tree-hugging liberal. The best bit was the part I was expecting to hate; the cgi was beautiful. Also, nearly 3hrs is much too long for any movie. If you can't get your point across in 90mins, you're not a good writer/director.

once i'd turned off my 'get the point' receptors, time sort of stopped - i was just enjoying the sights...

A cheesy, almost unbearable amalgamation of military, tribal-spiritual, and romantic clichées, mercifully brought across with stunning visuals.

Anyway, my mates and I had good fun wiping at those flying seeds and pointing out script-logic gaps the size of Sigourney Weaver's eyes.

One of the most enjoyable theater experiences I've ever had. If nothing else, go see it just for the eye popping special effect visuals and fully immersive 3-D.

Having just watched the film myself.Normal Telly will never be the same.
But we have 3D films on DVD that are not HD dont we? How good is 3D at home?

I enjoyed the 3D experience - and it's a fun film.

But some people really are taking the whole Pandora thing a little too seriously (http://edition.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/11/avatar.movie.blues/index.html).

It's a movie - go with it.

I will be disappointed if it cleans up at the Oscars - but I won't be surprised.

Saw Up in the Air - not sure what all the hype is there. Without Clooney - it's not really much.

Won't see Up In The Air because of Clooney. Don't you get sick of Hollywood shoving the same set of actors/actresses in every movie, over and over again?

I HATED "Up in the Air"

it felt like it was a movie geared for the people who were too "un-hip" to see "Lost in Translation"

...actually - the entire movie was nothing but a homogenized, easy to swallow mixture of "Lost in Translation" "Garden State" and "Rachel Getting Married"
