Because bombing the moon is just such a good idea.:)
This could never go wrong!
This friday, October 9th, NASA will bomb the South Pole of the Moon
on a mission to find water.
The LCROSS spacecraft will guide an empty centaur rocket into the crater Cabeus
(the crater with the greatest amount of Hydrogen).
Crashing the 2 - tons object will create a wider crater.
Scientists expect the impact will cause a huge cloud of dust,
gas and vaporized water that will be clearly visible from Earth
observatories and telescopes.
Impact scheduled to be at 11:30 am LONDON - 5:30 am MEXICO CITY.
Astronomers have been thinking the rain of comets brought water to the moon.
In the past 2 years 2 American spacecrafts have reported hints of hydrogen and oxygen.
Finding water would be great news for the NASA, it would mean unlimited fuel for any
future moon base.
Seeking a source of fuel has been a high-priority mission for the NASA, following
ex-President George W. Bush's "vision for space exploration" who said would
start with "a foothold on the moon."
The U.N. Outer Space Treaty prohibits non-peaceful activities on the moon.
Article IV states, “The moon and other celestial bodies shall be used by all
States Parties to the Treaty exclusively for peaceful purposes. The establishment
of military bases, installations and fortifications, the testing of any type of weapons
and the conduct of military manoeuvres on celestial bodies shall be forbidden.”
Pete Worden, director of NASA’s Ames Centre has been receiving tweets to stop the moon bombing.

I'm sure it'll go something like this:

Either that or Obama will just blow the moon out of orbit or something......plunging our planet into a nightless desert of fire!!!! :D
(..and yes it's all Obama's personal fault, he's probably even going to pull the moon bomb trigger himself.:p )

You see, this is the kind of twattish rubbish that people come out with.
Let me guess. NASA have not been researching and preparing for this project for years and years at all. They simply waited until Obama was elected then called up and said "Hey Mr Prez, dude, can we please bomb the moon now you are in power?" And Obama replied "Sure! Do what you want! It's my government now!"
You seriously need to take a step back and see what an idiot you are making of yourself with posts like these. Seriously.

Oh you say that now, but wait until you have no moon to fall back on.
Anyone know what time this whole shebang is going down in Eastern Standard Time (EST) ?

see all those holes on the moon? that's not because its swiss cheese. Those are um, what happens when something really big and fast collides with it. And yet the moon is still around. interesting huh?
Anyone know what time this whole shebang is going down in Eastern Standard Time (EST) ?
not sure but I'll bet that's also the time you silently ignore this whole "scandal" and go back to babbling about the bilderbergers

You would lose that bet because I found out it will be at 7:30am.....and that is too damn early for bilderbuggering.
...and unfortunately also too bright to see Obama single handedly bomb the moon and kill us all.:p

I have no idea what mongoose is talking about.
But following the LCROSS vehicle via twitter is pretty cool.

Mega science AND explosions - it's like mythbusters with the biggest budget ever!

Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of the Nobel choice, it was almost worth it just to hear all the crazees frothing at the mouth this morning (and for a bunch normally so keen to accuse others of "playing the race card" when it suits, they seem to be doing an awful good job of introducing race into the conversation themselves - again, when it suits)

Innit, though! :p
Yeah, actually it is a good idea, Mongoose. It's a NASA mission that was started years before Obama was ever even a Presidential nominee, and which is intended to identify water on the moon that would help facilitate our return to it on our way to Mars.
And what exactly are you afraid will go wrong? You think the impact will nudge the moon away from earth, out into the vastness of space or something? I suppose facts don't matter to you in this instance either, hm? Like the fact that the moon is hit by stronger impacts than this multiple times every single month, and yet it hasn't been blasted out into space yet?
And what's up with your comment that "The U.N. Outer Space Treaty prohibits non-peaceful activities on the moon." What's "non-peaceful" about a search for water on the moon - knowledge that would be beneficial to citizens of the entire planet?

I'm 90% sure you're right.
Still, it made for some enjoyable responses.

Thankfully the moon crisis was prevented by giving into Obama's insane demands and giving him the Nobel Peace Prize.;):D
Next year, all Miss America hopefuls will also be nominated for their future intentions and wishes of world peace.
Also, Super Bowl rings are already being created for the Steelers because they say that they are going to do great this year and win every game!
What a fantastic way to tarnish a perfectly good award.

"The Moon harbours many secrets," said Michael Wargo, chief lunar scientist at Nasa's headquarters in Washington DC.
OMG............... WAKE UP SHEEPLE!! Don't you see?!! They're using this to HIDE OBAMA'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!! GOD You people are sooooooo DUMB!!!!!!!
The identification of water-ice in the impact plume is important for purely scientific reasons, but also because a supply of water on the Moon would be a vital resource for future human exploration.
OMFGLOL!!!! "Human exploration"..... not "American exploration", but "human". Wow. Just WOW. Proof of how UN-AMERICAN Obama is. How much longer do we have to put up with this SOSHIALIST????!!!!????
