Following the success of the top 10 single, ‘Krafty’ and ‘Jetstream’, the superb collaboration with the Scissor Sisters’ Ana Matronix, New Order return with the sublime title track from their eight studio album. ‘Waiting For The Sirens’ Call’ was produced by the New Order themselves and the band consider it to be one of the best tracks they’ve ever made.

next up, in October:

Singles - a complete set of the bands singles (in their original form - so it is different to the previous releases of the bands greatest hits, anthology's etc,.)

"On October 3rd New Order will be releasing a definitive collection of all of their singles to date. ‘Singles’ is the ultimate anthology of the works of one of the most exceptional and groundbreaking British bands to date.

Drawing from twenty four years worth of remarkable recorded material, ‘Singles’ compiles every single released by the band in chronological order. The only way to own all the tracks on ‘Singles’ would be to have purchased every New Order single released in their career. ‘Singles’ displays just what New Order are so good at – creating the perfect pop singles that have crossed over to become ideal moments in music over the last twenty four years. Where as previous collections have focused on the different elements of New Order, ‘Singles’ is the first time that the bands definitive works have been laid out to create this classic New Order collection".

And, finally, what most people have been waiting for, a definitive DVD video's collection: Called 'Item'

"New Order, the innovative British pop group who have an enjoyed a 25+ year career, is set to release NEW ORDER: ITEM a 23-video collection that includes hit singles “Bizarre Love Triangle,” “Blue Monday,” and “True Faith,” plus alternate versions and new videos for “Temptation” and “Ceremony ” created exclusively for this release. The second disc in the set is a two-hour documentary with personal interviews, and interviews with musicians such as U2’s Bono on the affect the band’s music has had.

After the demise of Joy Division, due to Ian Curtis’ suicide, the three remaining members moved forward as New Order. Having already cemented a solid place in rock history with Joy Division, the band had very little left to prove but their influence was far from over. With their uninhibited use of electronics, the group changed the way audiences forever view electronic music and its integration into traditional rock genres. Over two decades later, their footprint is all the more palpable as bands like The Killers, The Bravery and Bloc Party consistently cite New Order’s music as a key influence.

The band has always treated the photography and video elements of packaging and promotion as an equally integral part of what they do. Having continually turned to the brightest names in film and photography when working on videos to accompany their songs, a litany of photographers, choreographers, directors and producers have contributed to this collection. Included in this collection is Jonathan Demme’s video for “The Perfect Kiss,” famed photographer William Wegman and animator Robert Breer’s vision for “Blue Monday ‘88” and painter Robert Longo’s “Bizarre Love Triangle.” Michael H. Shamberg, producer of many New Order videos, contributes liner notes to the DVD"

so thats it a heads up for you fans of the greatest electronic band ever

and

another 'greatest hits' compilation, but another one worth buying, although one really for hardcore fans, as i feel most 'casual' fans will survive with retro, international, substance or whatever other compilation they have...but for sheer 4 minute single excellence - the Singles album is well worth buying by the looks of it...its plain and simple a collections of every single.

but i think the big one will be the 'Item' DVD esepcaiilaly with the Regret Baywatch performance!!

enjoy

dear lord, looks promising so to speak. feels like only yesterday retro was released, now they're throwing this on the table? i'm a sucker for the art extras which means this will probably be added to the collection.

I came across this game the other day (http://www.neworderonline.com/Music/Release.aspx?ReleaseID=475) but didn't wanna waste a thread on it so i'll use yours big screen. anyone played it???

I wonder if the documentary is simply the 'New Order Story' from 1993. Personally, I wouldn't mind that together with a DVD comp of all their videos. Most Americans have not seen the unedited version of the 'New Order Story' - the release stateside on VHS was cut back by about an hour. I have an old converted VHS copy of this that I am eagerly looking to replace. :)

I'll def be picking up the dvd... I don't have any NO on film, save for those two recently released live dvd's (forget the titles... both were just numbers, I think)

I checked over on the NO website, and most people were bitching about the 7" only release of their new single.... but I think that sounds really cool - just hope I can find some place where I can score all three copies!

a bit hazy on the singles/ bside release though... as I've already got substance, and Retro though... so I've got all my bases covered right?

I have that video but think it must be the original version as it runs over two hours with many of their videos intercut within it. It's a brilliant piece of work.

Does "singles" have the original versions? Tempation alone has the '82 version, the '87 remake for substance, and then the '98 live version.

Sounds interesting, but for someone who owns every NO album besides Movement and Siren's Call (and also owns Retro (and Substance (and that BBC 87 Live Recording))), I'll probably pass on 'Singles'.

i think, if i read rightly - that the only way that anyone will have all of these singles is if they bought the 7" / CD's that were released over the years - if you own absolutly everything already you will have these tracks somewhere - but i'd reckon that most people will be missing at least one or two of these tracks in the form that they appear on this album, obvioulsy with the exception of the last two tracks which are both new...

and onto the bitching about WFTSC on 7" - well i think people are missing the entire point of the new single co-inciding with the 'singles' album, as most of the earlier NO singles were released on 7" and are what makes the basis of the album, releasing WFTSC on 7" makes complete sense - as a tie in for the new album.

it'll piss people off...andi know that its gonna get a US release and that won't be on vinyl, i think its coming on a maxi CD like the last one...

so don't fret about the fact its a 7" here in the UK...i can't see it being pushed out in that format around the world...

wow. looking forward to the DVD. might have to get that. the singles collection seems a bit unecessary, given i've already got Substance and that '95/6 (?) best of. how is the original '82 temptation different from the substance version?

"The other disc will house the documentary "New Order Story," which chronicles the group transformation from Joy Division into worldwide dance/rock superstars. The film was previously released on VHS but has been expanded here to twice its original 70-minute length."

Disc 1 of singles would be over 100 minutes if it included the longest versions of the songs on the tracklist. Editing time.

The Richard X version of BLT should be interesting.

i think the whole point of the compilation is to collect all the single edits in one place. that's why this release is vaguely interesting, it may be the only way to get certain edits that have never been on CD. some of these 7"/Single edits are noticably different from the more well known 12" or album versions.

Listening to Substance right now. In reference to the "Singles" collection to be released in October, 2 questions: Will the versions of the songs be different than those that appear on Substance, and, will there be a US release for the Singles collection? Thanks.

"Ceremony" is the original 7" version
"everything's gone green " is the original 7" edit

"confusion" is the original edit
"thieves like us" is the 7" edit,
"1963" is not the arthur baker remix BUT the original 7" b-side version!!!!

don't know if "RUN2" is actually the album version or the 12" version

"turn" is included AND it's a re-recorded EDIT!!!

i'm not entirely sure of the details of the Substance set (even though i have it - i can;t be arsed comparing it fully), but as far as i know on this album 'Singles' these are the official 7" versions and not remixed / edited / rerecorded versions that have been released elsewhere...

so it does exacty what it says on the lable...its the singles...and the reason behind WFTSC being released on 7"...(got my slip case today - waiting for the singles to arrive soon)

i'll have a spare set by then end of the week too...;)

its a shame that to fit the singles in the 'free' slipcase you have to take them out of the 'outer' cases - which are really good qualitypicture sleeves

- still i have one complete set...

it maybe worth picking up a couple more for less than £3 for the lot as i think these might be sought after in a couple of years and realise more than the first weeks £2.97 combined price !

big screen satellite
09-28-2005, 05:23 AM
if anyone is interested in getting hold of good quality mp3 versions of the 6 tracks on the 7" singles - they are available from itunes...at £0.79 each (i doubt that these tracks will be available on CD format, so downloading them will produce the best option & quality, i think...)

just a heads up...as i was gonna rip mine from the vinyl but its easier and far supirior quality downloading them....

joethelion

(checks US iTunes....)

damn!

well - no release in the US then I guess, which I fear is beginning to be a regular occurence

big screen satellite
10-09-2005, 12:34 PM
anyone picked up 'Singles' then...?

i have it, its ace - great to have the polished off original singles on one complete CD set...

(i realised that the international 2 project that -1 (negative 1) did after International was released included a lot of these exclusive versions of 7" singles, but to have the original mastered versions are much better...)

well worth getting if you want everything in crystal clear sound rather than those crackly old 7" & 12" 's you may still have ;) (old skool!)

the 2 disc DVD is out next week too...can't wait

hang on, what 2 disc dvd>? i bought the one disc DVD with all the videos on on friday. please don't tell me i've spent my wad too soon :(

joethelion

wait - something actually came out in the US first?

ha!

yea - there's a x2 dvd version of that release. One disc is "A Collection" while the second disc is the complete, unedited "New Order Story" ...I guess it's a longer version than what originally came out in some countries.

It goes through the band's history with some videos interspersed throughout (which are also on the primary dvd)

(edit)
hey - any chance you could hook me up with either
a) a copy of -1's cd, I never got one
b) a yousendit or megaupload link of the tracks that aren't also on "the singles"?

...I just ordered it today ("the singles")

ceramic'cow

fucking hell. i'm such a retard. so they've released "a collection" and "new order story" separately, and are now going to release a 2 disc set with both of them together? that's ridiculous. also, what bastards. that's really cheap.

edit: balls. now i'm gonna have to try and sell my copy of "Collection", and buy "Item".

joethelion
10-10-2005, 09:17 AM

I've only seen it as a double - I got it a while ago too (last week, maybe the week before) from Tower Records

'Item' is just a 2 disc set...DVD

disc one features the disc of videos and two the 'new order story'

i believe that some foriegn countries may get the single disc - the videos, but i doubt that they will release the 'new order story' separately

go back the the first few posts in this thread - which details the release in full...

well, i bought Collection - definitely just 1 disc - in ASDA (leamington spa), on friday. and it was on the shelf next to New Order Story. So i think they have been released, in this country, separately, if only in one branch of ASDA. which, the more i think about it, seems more and more likely.

really? i love the videos for true faith and 1963. i think the crystal video's quite good fun, although nothing special.

what did you think to the recent videos for ceremony and temptation? i quite liked them, although they had nothing to do with the band, really.

you kind of answer your own question. none of the videos even the newer ones were that great. i did like the crystal video. i perfer the original rather than the radio edit club mix version. I love the new temptation video because that girl is such a hottie. heh. man, was i disappointed seeing the video for my favorite song of theirs (spooky) in my head the video would be in the world of a clockwork orange, or 1984 world, dunno. but the video is creepy, in an aphex twin way, just creepy.

I don't regret buying this at all, i'm actually looking forward more to the new order story more than the video collection.
